About Liam Broady

Liam Broady is a professional Tennis player and current British No. 4 who plays on the professional ATP and ATP Challenger Tours. Born in Heaton Chapel, Stockport, in England on the 4th January 1994, Liam’s Tennis started at the age of 8 at the Matchpoint Tennis Centre in Bramhall and attended Norris Bank Primary and then Priestnall School in Stockport.

Liam was a top junior player winning the Boys doubles title in 2010 at Wimbledon and the Australian Open and reaching the Boys singles finals at Wimbledon (2011) and US Open in 2012.

In 2013 Broady won his first professional Futures title, and the following year in 2014 he reached his first Challenger Tour final, losing to James Duckworth in Charlottesville, Virginia.

In 2015 Broady won his first game at Grand slam level, coming from two sets behind to beat Aussie Marinko Matosevic in five sets at Wimbledon.

In 2018 Broady made his GB Davis Cup debut, impressing despite falling to defeat to Spaniard Albert Ramos- Vinolas, he also qualified for his first ever Masters title going on to reach the second round after a win over American Bjorn Frantangelo.

By 2020, Broady was rising up the rankings reaching a new career high of 152 in the world, and qualifying for a Grand slam tournament for the first time without having to rely on a wild card. He won three rounds of qualifiers to reach the Roland Garros main draw where he was beaten in four sets by Czech Jiri Vesely.

Broady broke into the world’s top 150 in 2021, following reaching two consecutive Challenger finals and qualifying for the Miami ATP Masters event.

His good form saw him awarded a wild card for Wimbledon and he didn’t let the home fans down breezing past Italian Marco Ceccinato in straight sets, and his stellar 2021 continued when he took advantage of a late call up for the GB Olympics team by stunning the world Number 12 Hubert Hurkacz to reach the third round.

Bolstered by his success he finally won his first ATP Challenger Tour event in Biel, Switzerland with a straight sets win over home favourite Marc- Andrea Husler, moving Broady up to #126 as he sought the top 100 billing that would get him into the Australian Open main draw.

He ultimately finished the year ranked at 128, and joined GB’s Davis Cup squad which reached the Quarter Finals before falling to Germany.

He started 2022 as stand-in captain of the GB ATP Cup squad which was eliminated despite impressive victories over powerhouse nations USA and Germany, but he showed that the experience had inspired him when storming through to reach the Australian Open main draw with three come-from-behind victories over Kasper Zuk, JJ Wolf and Roman Safiullin before falling to defeat in a sizzling atmosphere in the John Cain Arena against Aussie Nick Kyrgios.

2022 also saw Liam reach the 3rd round of the Wimbledon championships for the first time, defeating Slovakia’s Lukas Klein and Argentinian Number 15 seed Diego Schwartzman in two epic five set thrillers before going out to Aussie Alex de Minaur.

Liam also reached the quarter finals of the ATP 250 in Tel Aviv.

In 2023 Vdenek Kolar to win in Vilnius, Lithuania. The best was yet to come at the year’s Wimbledon Championships though, with Liam following a first round win over Frenchman Lestienne, with a stunning 2nd round win over Number 4 seed and Grand slam finalist Casper Ruud and reach the 3rd round for the second year running.

Liam also secured a place in the world’s top 100 for the first time when reaching the Challenger final in St Tropez, in September of 2023.

After a bright opening week to the 2024 season, where Liam qualified for the ATP250 event in Hong Kong, and thrashed top 100 Argentine Pedro Cachin before losing a tight match to world number 5 Andrey Rublev, Liam was forced through injury to withdraw before playing in the Australian Open.

This presaged a disappointing injury blighted 2024 season which carried over into the first half of 2025, although he sealed a 15K title in Foggia, Italy. However, a blistering end to 2025 saw Liam seal three more ITF tournaments before qualifying for, and then reaching the final of, the Lyon 75K tournament, racking up six victories before falling to Jan-Lennard Struff.

Liam has been coached for most of his career by Dave Sammel. Dave is a former tour professional himself who is also a published author of books and the online programmes, Mindset College.
